New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed Dabur India Ltd. to immediately stop selling several food products after finding that the company made misleading and unsubstantiated “100%” purity claims on product labels and promotional material.
According to information shared by FSSAI on social media platform X, the regulator has issued a prohibition order against the company for violating the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018.
The authority said products listed on Dabur’s website carried claims such as “100% Natural”, “100% Pure”, “100% Purity Guaranteed”, “100% Organic” and “100% Tender Coconut Water”. FSSAI stated that such claims were vague, unverified and capable of misleading consumers, making them non-compliant with food advertising regulations.
The regulator also found that Dabur Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Dabur Organic Honey displayed the Jaivik Bharat logo without the required FSSAI-recognised organic certification.
In addition, Dabur Homemade Coconut Milk was marketed with a “100% Pure” claim despite being a composite food product, for which such claims are not permitted under the regulations.
FSSAI said it had previously issued notices to the company, but no satisfactory corrective action was taken. Consequently, the authority ordered an immediate halt to the sale of the affected products until the violations are addressed in accordance with food safety regulations.
