Hours after Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalisation, ink thrown at CJP founder

New Delhi: Tension erupted at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday after an unidentified woman allegedly threw an ink-like liquid at Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke while he was addressing supporters during a protest.

The incident briefly disrupted the gathering as Dipke’s supporters rushed towards the stage, leading to chaos at the protest site.

Police detained the woman at the spot and launched an investigation. Her identity and the motive behind the incident were not immediately known.

The episode came just hours after Delhi Police shifted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from the Jantar Mantar protest site to Safdarjung Hospital after his health deteriorated on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike. Police said the decision was taken on medical advice and in compliance with directions issued by the Delhi High Court.

Following Wangchuk’s hospitalisation, Dipke announced that he had begun an indefinite hunger strike in support of the ongoing protest. In a post on X, he said he would continue the fast after Wangchuk was taken to hospital.

Dipke also alleged that Delhi Police assaulted him and briefly detained him during the operation to remove protesters from Jantar Mantar. Police rejected the allegations, maintaining that Wangchuk was shifted for necessary medical treatment and appealing to demonstrators to vacate the protest site peacefully.

Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 in support of a CJP-led protest over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the reported deaths of students linked to the controversy.

The protest continues at Jantar Mantar, where AISA activists Neha, Ameen and Manish are also continuing their hunger strike following Wangchuk’s hospitalisation.
