Jalandhar: An iPhone’s Crash Detection feature reportedly sent the first alert to the family of Divit Aulakh, nephew of singer-rapper Honey Singh and son of Speed Records owner Dinesh Aulakh, after a fatal road accident in Jalandhar on Saturday night.
Divit had enabled the feature on his phone and registered his mother’s number for emergency alerts. As soon as the accident occurred, the first notification reportedly reached her phone, waking her up and prompting her to inform the family.
The family tried calling Divit, but the calls went unanswered. They later contacted a friend and learnt that he had been involved in an accident and was being taken to Civil Hospital.
Divit was travelling with friends to a birthday party when their car collided with a municipal corporation trolley parked on the Khalsa College flyover. He died in the crash. His last rites are scheduled for November 3, with Honey Singh and other celebrities expected to attend.
On Monday, singer Honey Singh and Gurnam Bhullar visited the residence of Dinesh Aulakh and met the bereaved family.
Trolley lacked reflectors, barricades
The accident has also raised questions about safety arrangements at the site. The municipal trolley parked on the flyover reportedly had no reflectors at the rear, making it difficult for approaching motorists to spot it from a distance.
Municipal workers had allegedly failed to install barricades, red flags or warning signboards around the work area.
Five people were travelling in the car: Divit Aulakh, Aarav Talwar, son of Pappi Sweets owner, Raghav Punchi, Kavya and Pushkar Sharda, son of AAP councillor Deepak Sharda.
Friends reportedly took Divit to party
According to family sources, a birthday party was organised at a farmhouse in Dakoha on Saturday. Aarav Talwar and Pushkar Sharda had been invited, while Divit was reportedly not on the guest list.
Divit was resting at home when his friends allegedly persuaded him to join them for the party.
