Amit Shah targets Rahul Gandhi over ‘fake parliament’, defends SIR drive in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of staging a “fake parliament” in Delhi, saying he would never become Prime Minister in the real Parliament.

Addressing a public meeting during the BJP’s “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” march in Hyderabad, Shah said that if Rahul Gandhi had become prime minister in the mock parliament, it would have brought peace to his mother Sonia Gandhi.

The BJP is conducting a nationwide “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” campaign in response to opposition protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The first phase of the campaign is scheduled from October 22 to November 5, 2026.

Shah accused the Congress of opposing SIR to protect alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators, whom he claimed were part of its vote bank. He asserted that the BJP would remove every infiltrator from the country and electoral rolls, claiming that three crore votes belonged to Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Defending the BJP’s electoral victories, Shah questioned Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the party had won elections through SIR.

He pointed out that the BJP had won the 2014 and 2019 general elections before the current revision exercise and also secured victories in 2024 and subsequent state elections.

Shah further claimed that the BJP would win Telangana in the future.
