Jalandhar: A 24-year-old woman died after allegedly jumping from the rooftop of a 14-storey building at Jalandhar Heights-2 under Sadar police station limits on Monday. Police have sent her body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The deceased has been identified as Jasmine, 24. According to police sources, she was the daughter of IPS officer Karmveer Singh Chahal. The exact circumstances leading to her death have not yet been established.
Police said Jasmine had completed a master’s degree in politics and had reportedly been experiencing mental distress for some time. Investigators are recording statements from her family members and will take further legal action based on the findings.
The incident triggered panic in the residential society after Jasmine reportedly fell from the roof of the D-Block. Residents alerted the police, following which officers reached the spot, inspected the area and questioned people present at the time.
Sub-Inspector Balkaran of Sadar police station said the body had been kept at Jalandhar Civil Hospital for post-mortem. The precise cause and circumstances of the death will be established after the post-mortem report, he said.
Jasmine had been living with her mother. Police have also informed her father about the incident and are recording statements from the family. CCTV footage from the society is being examined to establish what happened before the incident.
Residents said Jasmine had been academically accomplished. She had cleared her Class 10 examination through the ICSE board and reportedly secured second rank nationally. In 2018, she was honoured by then Punjab DGP Suresh Arora for her academic achievement.
