Saharanpur: An ITBP Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and his driver were killed in a road accident in Saharanpur on Saturday morning.
The deceased have been identified as DIG Parminder Singh, 48, and his driver Ravi Shankar, 35. Singh, who hailed from Ropar, was travelling from Mussoorie in Uttarakhand to Ambala in Haryana after completing a training programme. His gunman, Jairam, was also travelling in the vehicle.
Scorpio collides with Swift
The accident took place around 10.30 am near SarasaÂwa on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway. According to the information available, the Scorpio lost control, hit the divider and was thrown into the opposite lane, where it collided with an oncoming Swift car.
The impact was severe, with eyewitnesses describing a loud crash. The front portion of the Swift was badly damaged, while the side of the Scorpio was also severely damaged.
All those involved were trapped inside the vehicles. Local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police.
Police teams reached the site and, with the help of locals, pulled the injured people out and shifted them to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared DIG Parminder Singh and his driver dead.
Jairam remains in critical condition, while three people travelling in the Swift were also injured.
The accident occurred near Jhabiran Cut in the SarÂsawa police station area, around 25 km from the district headquarters.
