Jalandhar Police arrest main accused in Tilak Nagar double murder after encounter

Jalandhar: Jalandhar Police on Wednesday arrested the main accused in the Tilak Nagar double murder case following an encounter, bringing a major breakthrough in the high-profile investigation.

The accused, identified as Gullu, had been on the run since the incident. He sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and is undergoing treatment at a hospital under police security.

According to police, officers had set up a checkpoint near Nakha Wala Bagh when they signalled a motorcycle rider to stop. The accused allegedly ignored the warning, attempted to break through the barricade and opened fire at the police team. Police retaliated, injuring him before taking him into custody.

Gullu was wanted in connection with the double murder in Tilak Nagar last month. In the incident, 24-year-old Simranjit Singh died at the scene after being shot, while 23-year-old Saurabh, who was critically injured, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The victims’ families have alleged that Gullu and his associates had planned the attack in advance, intercepted the two youths and opened indiscriminate fire on them, creating panic in the area.

Police Commissioner Satinder Singh said the preliminary investigation has revealed the accused’s alleged links with gangster Joga Folriwal. He added that police are continuing the investigation to identify other suspects and dismantle the network connected to the case.
