Mathura: Janmashtami celebrations were held across India on Friday, with devotees gathering at temples to mark the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight.
The 5,253rd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna was celebrated with special rituals in Mathura-Vrindavan, Dwarka, Jagannath Puri and several other cities.
At Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, the deity was ceremonially bathed using a silver Kamdhenu adorned with gold. As many as 500 drones were used to present visuals depicting Krishna’s leelas. More than 15 lakh devotees had visited the temple by 6 pm, according to the information provided.
In Nathdwara in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district, Lord Krishna was given a 21-gun salute as part of the celebrations.
Earlier in the day, Mangala Aarti was performed at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, the ISKCON temple in Delhi and Govind Dev Ji Temple in Jaipur.
In Patna, the ISKCON temple marked the occasion with an abhishek of Lord Krishna using 108 silver pots. Around eight tonnes of flowers of different varieties were brought in to decorate the temple for the celebrations.
