New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday alleged that the Centre is planning to increase ethanol blending in petrol beyond 50 per cent and extend ethanol blending to diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). He urged people to avoid purchasing new petrol and diesel vehicles for the next few years.
In a post on X, Kejriwal claimed the government was preparing to raise ethanol blending well beyond the current E20 fuel programme.
“They appear to be planning to increase blending in petrol to more than 50 per cent. They are only waiting for the situation to cool down. First, they forced E20 fuel into E0 and E10 vehicles, damaging them. Now, if you buy a new E20-compatible vehicle, the government will soon force E50 petrol into it and damage that as well,” he alleged.
Kejriwal further claimed that the Centre was preparing to introduce ethanol blending in diesel and appealed to people to postpone buying new petrol and diesel vehicles until there was greater clarity on the policy.
In another post, he alleged that the government was also planning to blend ethanol with aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
“Sources say the Modi government is planning to blend ethanol in aviation turbine fuel (ATF). Experts say this could pose a serious risk to flight safety,” he claimed.
Earlier this month, Kejriwal had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concerns over the rollout of E20 petrol. He urged the Centre to ensure the availability of both pure petrol and E20 fuel at petrol pumps and sought a reduction in the price of ethanol-blended petrol.
