Mohan Bhagwat says Gen Z is more patriotic, calls for greater dialogue with youth

Mumbai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that the younger generation, particularly Gen Z and Gen Alpha, is more patriotic and honest than previous generations and stressed that their views should be heard with seriousness.

Speaking at an event organised by the India International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai to mark the organisation’s 15th anniversary, Bhagwat said a lack of engagement with young people had contributed to the protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

“We should listen to the younger generation carefully. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are more patriotic and honest than the older generation,” Bhagwat said.

Referring to the student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, Bhagwat said better communication with young people could have prevented such situations. Following the 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar, the Centre held talks with students, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan later resigned from his post.

Bhagwat also reiterated his earlier remarks made on July 24 during student protests in Delhi, saying today’s youth ask many questions and deserve meaningful engagement.

“We should speak openly with young people instead of merely giving them orders. It is no longer possible to impose our will and expect everyone to accept it through authority alone,” he said.
