Mohali: A female teacher and her husband have been named in an FIR in connection with the murder of 48-year-old headmaster Gursewak Singh in Mohali.
Kharar DSP Ishan Singla said police recovered CCTV footage from the scene and, based on the footage, named Gursewak’s colleague Harpreet Kaur and her husband Sartaj Singh as accused in the case. The couple was reportedly living in Mohali, while their permanent address is in Sector 22, Chandigarh.
Police have formed separate teams and launched raids to arrest the two accused.
Family alleges workplace dispute led to murder.
According to Gursewak’s family, he had an argument with Harpreet Kaur at the school a few days before the attack over work-related issues. The family alleged that the teacher had been accused of negligence in carrying out her duties.
Following a complaint to the education department, the teacher was transferred. The family alleges that she subsequently developed a grudge against Gursewak and arranged the attack in retaliation. These allegations are part of the family’s claims and are yet to be established by the investigation.
Headmaster attacked outside home
Gursewak was attacked outside his home in Sunny Enclave, Kharar, on August 5. According to his family, he had returned home from school as usual and had just stepped out of his car when several men travelling in an i20 car arrived and attacked him.
The attackers allegedly used an axe and other sharp-edged weapons, leaving him seriously injured. He was taken to a private hospital in Mohali, where he died during treatment on Sunday.
His last rites were performed on Sunday.
Police are continuing their investigation and efforts to arrest the two named accused.
