Phagwara: A 21-year-old student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) was found dead at a private paying guest (PG) accommodation near Phagwara, Punjab, police said.
The student, identified as Abhishek Patel, son of Siyaram Patel, hailed from Chandapur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district. According to the initial information, he had moved out of the university hostel and shifted to the PG accommodation a few days before the incident.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. The body was taken into custody and sent for a postmortem examination.
Further details about the circumstances surrounding the death are awaited.
The incident comes weeks after unrest at LPU following reports of an alleged sexual assault involving a female student. During the disturbance, students reportedly vandalised parts of the university and looted the Uni Mall. Police have since arrested several students and people from outside the university in connection with that case.
The two incidents are separate, and no link between them has been established.
