Kapurthala: Panic and confusion gripped a village near Phagwara after a woman was allegedly seen wandering naked late at night and entering residential areas.
According to local residents, the woman was spotted around 11.30 pm on Thursday in Naroor village. She was allegedly seen near the village water tank and cremation ground before moving towards residential areas. Residents claimed that she entered people’s premises and sat on charpoys where some people were sleeping.
When residents asked her why she was walking without clothes, she reportedly said that she had been bathing when someone took away her clothes. However, when villagers offered her clothes to cover herself, she allegedly refused and continued walking.
Residents concerned after midnight incident
Village resident Belaram said he saw the woman near the water tank and cremation ground and tried to speak to her. He said she later walked towards a Gujjars’ settlement.
Another resident, Rahmat Ali, claimed that he saw the woman near his haveli around midnight. He also said that she refused the clothes offered to her and continued walking while shouting.
Residents said the woman was not known to them and had apparently not been seen in the area before. Her identity and the reason for her behaviour remain unclear.
CCTV footage captures movements
The woman’s movements were reportedly captured on CCTV cameras installed in the village. The footage allegedly shows her walking around different locations, including near a haveli, fields and behind trees.
Village sarpanch Rajkamal Kaur said the woman’s intentions and identity were not clear. She appealed to residents to remain alert at night.
The woman has reportedly not been seen in the village again since the incident.
