Mohali: A Mohali-based man, Jaspreet Singh, and his companion have alleged that they were denied entry to a hotel in Salzburg, Austria, because they were wearing turbans.
The two shared a video on social media describing the incident and alleged that the hotel management refused to let them enter because of their turbans. They termed the incident an instance of religious and racial discrimination.
According to Jaspreet, the hotel had been booked for August 27. He said the management told them that the hotel and restaurant’s dress code was available online and that turbans were not permitted.
Jaspreet, a stock market trader, said he had travelled to several European countries and other parts of the world but had never faced such an experience before.
Hotel allegedly refused refund
Jaspreet further alleged that the hotel also refused to refund the amount paid for the booking.
He said that while he was not concerned about getting the money back, he considered the alleged policy of refusing entry to people wearing turbans a serious example of discrimination.
Jaspreet said the incident left him disappointed and affected his travel experience in Salzburg. The allegations have been made by the travellers in their social media video; the hotel’s response to the claims was not included in the information provided.
