Amritsar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached two immovable properties belonging to accused Anwar Masih in connection with a narco-terror case involving the alleged smuggling of around 500 kg of heroin into India.
The action was carried out on August 13 under Section 25(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The attached properties are Plot Nos. 128 and 129, located in Akash Vihar Phase-1 in the Sultanwind area of Amritsar. Both properties are registered in Masih’s name.
Probe into international drug network
The case, registered as RC-26/2020/NIA/DLI, is also known as the Salaya drug seizure case. It relates to the alleged smuggling of approximately 500 kg of heroin from Pakistan to India through the sea route.
According to the NIA investigation, Masih allegedly had links with an international network spanning Italy, Australia, the UAE, Thailand, Iran and Pakistan.
Alleged terror funding link
The agency has alleged that the network was involved not only in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics but also in using proceeds from the drug trade to support terror-related activities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The NIA’s investigation allegedly found links between the two attached properties and proceeds connected to terrorist activities. The properties were therefore attached under the provisions of the UAPA.
