Bishkek: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for the dismantling of the entire terrorist ecosystem with zero tolerance for double standards, urging the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to send a clear message against state-sponsored terrorism.
Addressing the SCO summit in Bishkek, Modi said terrorism should never be used as a strategic asset. He called for action against terrorist financing, recruitment, radicalisation and safe havens.
Modi also outlined a 10-point actionable agenda for the grouping and urged member states to strengthen the three pillars of SCO cooperation — security, connectivity and opportunity. He said the organisation should move beyond vision statements towards measurable outcomes.
The Prime Minister called on SCO members to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy rather than allowing regional conflicts to escalate or disrupt global energy security, maritime trade and supply chains.
Emphasising respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, Modi urged the creation of reliable and inclusive connectivity in accordance with the SCO charter.
The remarks were made in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and leaders of other SCO member states, including China, Russia, Iran, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The SCO currently has 10 member countries — China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus.
