Chandigarh: The Punjab cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Monday approved a series of decisions, including a proposal to develop Pathankot as a global tourism destination.
The cabinet gave its approval to the Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) Bill, 2026, paving the way for planned development of areas around the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi Dam.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said after the cabinet meeting that the state government intends to develop Pathankot into a world-class tourism destination, with the aim of attracting visitors from across the country and abroad.
The proposed Ranjitgarh Development Authority will oversee the development of the region. The chief minister will serve as its chairman, while the tourism minister will be appointed as vice-chairman.
An executive committee headed by the chief secretary will supervise the authority’s functioning and coordinate development work among different government departments.
The cabinet also approved new recruitments in the Punjab Chief Electoral Office and amendments to the Punjab Nursing Education Service Rules.
Another decision cleared the regularisation of services of contractual non-teaching staff working under the Punjab Institute of Corporate Training and Studies (PICTS), according to the state government.
