Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has approved the establishment of three new digital universities in the state and cleared a Bill to bring eligible outsourced employees under contractual engagement.
Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said approval has been granted to set up Cloud University in Hoshiarpur, Balraj Singla Education Society Digital University at Fatehpur in Patiala district, and Physics Wallah Digital University at Nandpur Kesho in Patiala district.
Cheema also announced that the Cabinet has approved a Bill aimed at transitioning outsourced workers to contractual employment.
Under the proposed legislation, employees engaged in hazardous jobs will become eligible for contractual engagement after completing three years of continuous service on an outsourced basis. Employees in other departments will be eligible after five years of continuous outsourced service.
The Bill is expected to be introduced during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Punjab Assembly.
