Chandigarh: Rajbir Singh Ghumman, officer on special duty (OSD) to Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at its Sector 30 office in Chandigarh on Friday for questioning in an alleged corruption case linked to the chief minister’s camp office.
The questioning is part of the ongoing CBI investigation into an FIR registered in connection with the allegations. Ghumman had appeared before the agency a few days ago, after which he told reporters that he had been asked to return on October 31.
Following the agency’s directions, he arrived at the CBI office again on Friday, accompanied by his convoy, for further questioning.
The case has also reached the Supreme Court. On October 12, the apex court granted relief to the Punjab government by restraining the CBI from taking coercive action against Ghumman. However, it declined the state government’s request to stay the CBI investigation.
The Punjab and Haryana high court had ordered the CBI probe on October 5. The Punjab government subsequently challenged the order in the Supreme Court through a special leave petition.
Ghumman can participate in the investigation, while the protection against arrest remains in place under the Supreme Court’s order. The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations have not been established in court.
