Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia has said the party will contest the next Punjab assembly elections on the strength of chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s performance, claiming that people are satisfied with the government’s work over the past five years.
Sisodia said the government had undertaken work in education, healthcare, electricity, water supply and support for farmers and traders. He claimed the work carried out at the grassroots level had created a positive atmosphere for the party and that many people wanted Mann to return as chief minister.
He said AAP would seek a fresh mandate by highlighting Mann’s work, his commitment to Punjab and the state’s development.
On the arrest of Punjab cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora, Sisodia accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of relying on allegations to fight elections. He claimed Arora had been arrested in a fabricated case because the BJP was concerned about the investment initiatives and work he had undertaken in Punjab. These remarks reflect Sisodia’s allegations; the claims were not independently established in the statement.
Meanwhile, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said the party’s political affairs committee had finalised 40 candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections, with the names announced in the first list.
Singh said the remaining candidates would be discussed before a second list was released in the coming days. He described the latest announcement as the first phase of the party’s candidate selection process.
