Mansa: Former Akal Takht jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh visited Mansa and met the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta, expressing solidarity with them and pledging support in their fight for justice.
During the meeting, Giani Harpreet Singh shared the family’s grief and appealed to people across Punjab to unite against the growing drug menace. He said tackling drug trafficking could not be the responsibility of any one individual or organisation and required collective action across the state.
Expressing concern over the spread of drugs, he alleged that the drug mafia had become so powerful that even governments appeared reluctant to take action against it. He described the situation as a serious concern for Punjab.
He also warned that drugs were reaching schools, with children as young as those in Class 10 reportedly falling prey to substance abuse. He said failure to address the problem in time could put the future of Punjab’s next generation at risk.
Jhotta was allegedly shot dead in Mansa on October 13. Since the incident, his family and supporters have been staging a protest demanding justice. The protest entered its 18th day on Saturday, with Giani Harpreet Singh’s visit adding to the support for the ongoing agitation.
He called for people from all sections of society to come together to combat drug trafficking and protect Punjab’s youth.
