Chandigarh: The Punjab government has extended the deadline for uploading digitised birth certificates on the Unified Student Registration Portal for the 2026-27 academic session, providing relief to thousands of students across the state.
Announcing the decision, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said Class 8 students who do not yet have a digitised birth certificate will now have until October 30, 2026, to obtain the document and upload it to the portal.
He added that Class 9 and Class 10 students will be allowed to make the required corrections and update their details during the next academic session as part of the registration process.
Bains said the decision reflects the Bhagwant Mann-led government’s commitment to strengthening digital reforms in school education while ensuring that no student faces difficulties because of procedural requirements.
“Our government is committed to creating a paperless, transparent and efficient education system through the Unified Student Registration Portal. At the same time, we understand the practical challenges faced by students and parents. We will not allow procedural hurdles to disrupt a child’s education,” the minister said.
He directed all school heads to coordinate with parents and ensure that the registration process is completed smoothly within the revised timeline.
According to the state government, the move is part of its broader initiative to improve governance through technology while keeping students’ interests at the centre of education reforms.
