Punjab government agrees to ₹10 lakh compensation for each Sangrur accident victim’s family

Sangrur: The Punjab government has agreed to pay ₹10 lakh to the family of each person killed and ₹2 lakh to every injured person in a fatal accident in Sangrur on Sunday, following an agreement with protesters after four days of demonstrations.

Gobind Singh Chhajli, a member of the Sangharsh Committee, said the agreement was reached after a meeting between committee representatives and Sangrur deputy commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur.

Under the agreement, one eligible family member of each deceased victim will also be offered a contractual job in a government department, based on their qualifications.

The government and the committee have also reached an in-principle agreement to allot five-marla plots to the families of those killed and injured in the accident.

The settlement follows days of protests demanding compensation and support for the affected families.
