Ludhiana: A 35-year-old Punjabi singer and lyricist was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside his house in Ludhiana on Thursday, police said.
The deceased, Baljit Singh, was found on a bed at his home in Patti Dhaliwal village, falling under the Sudhar police station area. According to local residents, a foul smell had been coming from the house for several days. When the smell became stronger, they alerted the police.
Sudhar police reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Baljit Singh performed at tournaments and other local events and also wrote songs. He was unmarried.
Forensic and investigation teams at spot
Given the circumstances, teams from the forensic department, dog squad and CIA also reached the house. Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify people who may have visited or passed by the house in the past few days.
The body was found on the bed, according to the investigating officer. Police said the exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem examination.
SHO Sudhar Kulwinder Singh said the body would be handed over to the family after the post-mortem. Police are currently conducting proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and continuing their investigation into the case.
