Sangrur SHO suspended after CBI search at Punjab CM’s OSD’s residence

Sangrur: Sangrur Police suspended station house officer (SHO) Yashpal Sharma after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a search at the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Rajbir Singh Ghuman, in Gharachon village.

A senior police officer confirmed that Sharma was suspended on allegations of dereliction of duty. The action came after some local residents reportedly welcomed the CBI team with flowers and distributed sweets when the agency arrived at Ghuman’s residence on Tuesday.

Police also detained two people who were allegedly seen showering flowers on the CBI vehicle during the search operation. An officer said several people were detained from Gharachon in view of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s visit to Sangrur.

The developments took place amid a CBI investigation involving allegations linked to the functioning of the Chief Minister’s Office.

The CBI search at Ghuman’s residence began on Tuesday evening. The agency also searched a residence in Sector 2, Chandigarh, being used as the chief minister’s camp office, where Ghuman was reportedly staying.

Searches were also carried out at locations in Mohali, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala and Jalandhar as part of the wider investigation.

The case involves allegations concerning transfers, postings and other government-related matters. The investigation is continuing.
