New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several opposition MPs over their alleged unauthorised entry into the Akashvani Bhawan premises during Tuesday’s protest.
The complaint was reportedly filed by Akashvani authorities. The opposition leaders were taking part in a ‘Save Democracy’ march from Parliament towards the Election Commission, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Police had stopped the march by putting up barricades and detained several leaders, with protesters being taken away in buses as authorities moved to disperse the demonstration.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi subsequently got off a bus and entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises, where they sat in protest under a banyan tree along with other leaders and supporters.
The sit-in continued until around 8pm, after which police detained several protesters.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has invited INDIA bloc MPs for lunch on Wednesday to discuss the next course of action following the protest.
