Shehzad Poonawalla resigns as BJP national spokesperson

New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has resigned from his party post, according to sources. The resignation was reportedly submitted to the party leadership on Thursday evening.

Soon after tendering his resignation, Poonawalla removed the word “BJP” from the biography of his X and other social media profiles. In his updated bio, he now describes himself as an “Indian” and a “lifelong supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.

Poonawalla joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after leaving the Congress and went on to become one of the party’s most prominent national spokespersons, frequently representing the BJP in television debates.

Neither Poonawalla nor the BJP has issued an official statement on the reported resignation, and the reasons behind his decision remain unclear.
