Tension at Jhotta protest site in Mansa after ASI allegedly slaps youth

Mansa: Tension erupted at the protest site near the Tinkoni intersection in Mansa on Tuesday evening after an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) allegedly slapped a young man near police barricades, prompting Nihang Sikhs and other people present to object.

According to information available, an argument broke out between the youth and ASI Surinder Pal as the former passed near the barricades. The police officer allegedly slapped him, triggering an uproar and drawing a crowd to the spot.

Nihang Sikhs passing through the area intervened and protested against the officer’s conduct. Tensions reportedly escalated when the ASI allegedly refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing, prompting the Nihangs to warn that they could stage a sit-in at the site.

Members of the action committee subsequently reached the spot and brought the matter to the attention of senior police officials. The station house officer of Bareta intervened, and the dispute was reportedly resolved.

ASI Surinder Pal is said to be from Tarn Taran district. No detailed official statement on the incident was immediately available.
