Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that the “biggest attack” is yet to come as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalate following fresh American airstrikes on Iranian targets.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump issued a warning to Iran after the US military said it had begun attacks in response to alleged attempts by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and US forces stationed in the Middle East.
The US launched new airstrikes on Iranian positions on Tuesday, according to the report. The attacks were the first direct US strikes on Iran since July and came amid reports that two oil tankers travelling through the Strait of Hormuz had been damaged.
The developments have already pushed oil prices higher, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major concern for global energy supplies. Iran has closed the strategic waterway to shipping and its leadership has warned that it could further disrupt oil exports from the Gulf.
The latest escalation comes despite Trump’s warning that Iran would face severe consequences in response to its recent attacks.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also warned that Washington is preparing to impose additional sanctions on Iran soon.
