Punjab & Haryana HC quashes dismissal of DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu

Chandigarh: Punjab Police DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu has received major relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which has quashed the Punjab government’s order dismissing him from service.

Sandhu was dismissed following the controversy surrounding an interview of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, which was allegedly facilitated while Bishnoi was in police custody at the CIA, Kharar, in March 2023.

The government had taken action against the DSP after an inquiry into the interview controversy, citing damage caused to the reputation of the police department. The dismissal order was issued by the Department of Home Affairs after receiving approval from the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), which is the appointing authority for officers of the Punjab Police Service cadre.

Following his dismissal, cases related to alleged extortion and corruption were also registered against Sandhu, according to the report.

Bishnoi, a key accused in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case, faces more than 80 cases relating to murder, extortion and other offences.
