Washington/Tehran: The United States carried out a sixth consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran on Friday, with one of the attacks damaging the control tower at Chabahar Port, a strategically important facility developed with Indian investment. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth shared an image showing damage to the tower, while Iranian state media also confirmed that the port had been targeted.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest operation involved fighter jets, drones and naval assets targeting multiple Iranian military installations. The strikes were aimed at coastal surveillance sites, air defence systems, military logistics infrastructure and maritime facilities.
Iran’s Mehr News Agency confirmed the attack on Chabahar Port, saying the facility had come under fire for the third time within a week. Authorities said the control tower sustained damage during the latest strike.
Chabahar Port is of major strategic importance to India, which has invested in its development through India Ports Global Limited (IPGL). The port provides India with direct access to Afghanistan and Central Asia while bypassing Pakistan, making it a key component of New Delhi’s regional connectivity strategy.
