Baba Bakala Sahib: A large gathering was held at a Panthic conference organised by Akali Dal Waris Punjab at the historic Baba Bakala Sahib, where speakers discussed various issues concerning Punjab and the Sikh community, with the state’s growing drug crisis emerging as a major focus.
During the conference, Tarseem Singh, father of jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, read out a pledge made by Amritpal Singh to the people of Punjab.
According to the pledge, if Punjabis are given the power to make decisions, a white paper will be issued covering the spread of drugs from 1997 to 2027, including drug-related deaths, supply chains, alleged political involvement and alleged collusion within the police and security system.
The pledge also called for justice for families affected by drugs and measures to ensure the rehabilitation of young people caught in drug addiction.
Drug policy document presented
The organisation also presented a vision document on tackling drugs at the conference.
Senior leaders, including Tarseem Singh and Manpreet Singh Ayali, members of the parliamentary board and the five-member core committee, addressed the gathering. They raised issues concerning Punjab’s youth, farmers, water resources, employment, the state’s rights and Panthic matters, while also targeting traditional political parties over their alleged failures to control the drug problem.
The speakers said that the drug issue requires more than political statements and called for concrete policies, transparency, accountability and effective action.
They described the pledge made at Baba Bakala Sahib as an important step towards strengthening principle-based politics and protecting Punjab’s youth from drugs.
Several senior party leaders and representatives, including Harbhajan Singh Toor, Amarjit Singh Van Chiri, Surjit Singh Daulatpur, Sukhwinder Singh Agwan, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala, Iqbal Singh Jhunda, Balwinder Kaur and others, attended the conference.
