Kurukshetra: A 40-year-old man was allegedly killed by his wife at their rented home in Kurukshetra, with police now investigating not only the murder but also the reported disappearance of some of his internal organs.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district. He had been living in Kurukshetra’s Pehowa Road area with his wife, Vimla Devi, for about a year and worked as a water-supply worker.
According to the landlord, Rinku, he heard the couple shouting at around 5pm on Saturday. When he reached the terrace, he allegedly saw Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with deep injuries to his abdomen. He claimed that Vimla was putting Rajesh’s intestines, which had come out through the wound, into a plastic sack.
The landlord said Vimla jumped from the terrace after seeing him and was injured in the fall. Police recovered three knives of different sizes from the scene.
Police investigating missing organs
Forensic expert Dr Gaurav Kaushik said the post-mortem examination found a deep cut measuring around 37 centimetres on the victim’s abdomen. According to the forensic findings cited in the report, approximately half of Rajesh’s liver and his right kidney were missing.
Police are investigating where the organs went and whether their disappearance is connected to the murder.
The landlord also told police that Vimla practised jhaad-phoonk (ritual healing) and that the couple frequently had disputes. They had been married for several years and had no children. However, the exact motive for the killing has not yet been established.
Accused woman hospitalised
Police said Vimla suffered a spinal injury after jumping from the terrace and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
SHO Surender Sandhu said she would be arrested and questioned after her condition improves. Police said her interrogation is expected to help establish the motive behind the killing and clarify the circumstances surrounding the missing organs.
