475 roads, including 5 national highways, closed in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy snowfall

Chandigarh: Due to fresh snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, 475 roads have been closed, including 5 national highways. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 333 power supply schemes and 57 water supply schemes have also been disrupted due to snowfall in the region.

According to the data released, 56 roads in Chamba, one in Kangra, six in Kinnaur, 51 in Mandi and 133 in Shimla have been closed due to snowfall. Earlier on Saturday, 504 roads were closed in the state, including 4 national highways. Power supply and water supply schemes were also disrupted due to snowfall at many places.

Meanwhile, work to clear snow is going on at nine stations of Lahaul-Spiti following fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the district. The Lahaul-Spiti police had posted a post on the weather and road condition of the district on its social media handle.

Nine stations reported snowfall ranging from 1 to 5 feet and also provided information about road conditions. The stations include Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, Udaipur, Tindi, Koksar, Sissu, North Portal and South Portal.

Since the beginning of the new year, a large number of tourists have been coming to Himachal Pradesh. While other states of North India are in the grip of fog, Himachal Pradesh is experiencing snowfall.

However, the Himachal Pradesh Police has urged people to assess the weather conditions before setting out on the yatra and advised to travel only when necessary.
