Lok Sabha poll dates likely to be announced on Thursday or Friday: Sources

New Delhi: The Election Commission will visit Jammu and Kashmir from Monday to Wednesday. The visit is being held to assess when elections can be held in the Union Territory.

Sources said that the dates for the Lok Sabha elections are likely to be announced soon after the visit. The polls are likely to be announced on Thursday or Friday.

The Supreme Court has directed to conduct assembly elections in the Union Territory (UT) by September.

On this instruction, the Election Commission is going to visit Jammu and Kashmir.

The Centre had asked the panel to assess whether assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir can be held along with the Lok Sabha polls.
