Election Commissioner Arun Goel resigns weeks before Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi: In a shocking move just weeks before the Lok Sabha elections, Election Commissioner Arun Goel has resigned.

The President has accepted his resignation. Already one post in the Election Commission was vacant and now Goel has also resigned, after which the post of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will be retained.

Sources said that the dates for the Lok Sabha elections could be announced next week. In such a situation, it has to be seen whether Goyal’s resignation will affect the timeline.

Arun Goel’s term was still pending till 2027. However, he resigned about three years before that.
