SC calls farmers’ agitation serious, says don’t file petition for publicity

New Delhi: Terming the matter related to the farmers’ protest as “serious”, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the petitioner to refrain from filing a petition on the basis of newspaper reports just to gain publicity.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and K V Vishwanathan allowed petitioner Agnostos Theos, managing director of the Sikh Chamber of Commerce, to withdraw his plea, accusing the Centre and some states of violating the rights of farmers protesting “peacefully”.
