Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Sends Legal Notice to Ranjit Singh Over False Allegations, Demands Apology Within 24 Hours
Punjab E News (PEN News): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Moga MLA Amandeep Kaur launched a sharp attack on the opposition parties over the baseless allegations being levelled against Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. She said that in politics, it is the opposition’s right to question, oppose and criticise the functioning of the government, but making false allegations and attacking an individual’s private life, reputation and character would not be accepted at any cost. When lies cross all limits, they will be answered not only politically but also through legal means.
Addressing a press conference, AAP MLA Amandeep Kaur said that the opposition should raise political issues on the basis of facts and evidence instead of spreading rumours or making personal allegations against individuals and their families. “Similar allegations had recently been levelled against Rajvir Singh, OSD to CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, without any concrete evidence being presented,” she added.
“I can say with full responsibility that there is absolutely no matter of anyone making any inappropriate demand from anyone in the name of party funds,” she said, challenging the opposition to place any such allegation before the public along with concrete facts and evidence instead of relying on rumours.
MLA Amandeep Kaur said that in the matter of allegations levelled against Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann by Ranjit Singh, brother-in-law of Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur had already sent a legal notice. The notice sought an apology within 24 hours for the allegations, failing which it stated that legal proceedings would be initiated and the matter would be taken to court.
She said that every individual has the right to seek legal recourse if false allegations are levelled against them. “Ask questions in politics, oppose, criticise, but the politics of attacking someone’s private life and making allegations without evidence must stop,” she said.
MLA Amandeep Kaur reiterated that the AAP is not in favour of suppressing anyone’s voice. She said that the opposition was free to question and criticise the government, but if it saw any irregularity in any decision or work of the government, it should raise the issue with facts and evidence. Making personal remarks against women and family members, she said, was highly shameful.
She said that one of the major reasons for the opposition’s frustration was the popularity of the AAP and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in Punjab. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, large-scale work had been carried out for the development of Punjab and the welfare of ordinary people over the past four-and-a-half years,” she said.
The AAP MLA said that from providing government jobs to the youth and free electricity to households, to providing health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh, ensuring canal water reaches every field, providing daytime electricity to farmers and implementing schemes such as the pilgrimage scheme and Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar scheme, the government’s initiatives had had a direct positive impact on the lives of ordinary people.
She said, “The benefits of these schemes were reaching people at the grassroots level and this was why the opposition, instead of answering the government’s work, has been left with no option other than resorting to mudslinging.”
Advising opposition leaders to conduct politics on the basis of facts and issues, MLA Amandeep Kaur said that if there was any shortcoming in the government’s work, they should present the facts before the public. “However, if anyone attempts to damage another person’s reputation through hearsay and baseless allegations, the matter would be answered through legal means.”
The AAP MLA made it clear that personal attacks and false allegations could no longer be passed off as part of political debate. Those making such allegations would have to substantiate their claims and could be required to answer for them in court.
