AAP protests against Kejriwal’s arrest: Police detain several leaders, including Harjot Bains
New Delhi: Punjab ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Somnath Bharti were today detained by the police along with several AAP members at Patel Chowk in protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Raising slogans of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Kejriwal Zindabad’, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and leaders reached the metro station in the area. The party has given a call for a march and gherao towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Lok Kalyan Marg.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure are in force in the area and the police are not allowing anyone to assemble.
Bharti, a senior AAP leader, said in a post on X that he was detained by the police along with Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker and AAP’s Mangolpuri MLA Rakhi Birla. Harjot Singh Bains, a minister in the AAP government in Punjab, and senior party member Reena Gupta are also among those detained.
