SAD asks Kejriwal to desist from communalising politics
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convener Arvind Kejriwal to immediately desist from communalizing Indian politics with outrageous demands of printing images of Gods and Goddesses on currency notes, asserting such irresponsible statements would disturb communal harmony in the country.
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was astonishing that an IIT graduate had stooped so low as to make such a communal demand solely for political considerations. “While there is no doubt that any reasonably educated person knows that printing pictures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses on currency notes has no relation with improvement of the Indian economy, the very fact that Kejriwal has made this statement is indicative that he is ready to destroy the social fabric of the country solely for petty political gains. Pictures of Gods and Goddesses are worshipped and kept in sacred places. There could be alarming unrest due to their use in meat shops and liquor shops. The pictures could also be desecrated which is also a cause for concern”.
Asserting that Kejriwal’s statement was against the secular nature of the country, Mr Majithia said Indian was a multicultural and multilingual country and that the country’s constitution respected all faiths and cultures. “In such a situation no one should try to woo voters through religion. This is also blatantly illegal considering that the statement has been made to indulge in a competition with the BJP in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections’ ‘.
Stating that this was not the ‘badlav’ AAP had promised to the people of the country and Punjabis, the former minister said “the issue is of the intentions of AAP. It is clear that AAP and its Convener Arvind Kejriwal never intend to fulfill any promise made to the people. We have seen this in Punjab where farmers, employees and youth were promised the moon but not given anything. It is also a fact that all supposed models of AAP including the Delhi Model have been torn to shreds by independent surveys and this is why Kejriwal has now turned to religion to exploit the religious sentiments of the people”.
Ex Minister Majithia also advised the AAP Convener to try to practice what he preaches. “Mr Kejriwal is trying to showcase himself as a devout Hindu by propagating pictures of Gods and Goddesses are put on currency notes but has no qualms with the drunken antics of his chosen chief minister Bhagwant Mann. It would be better if Kejriwal brings probity in public life in the real sense of the word and makes his ministers and legislators in Punjab socially and morally accountable for their omissions and commissions which include acts of corruption and even moral turpitude”.
