21.39 Crore passengers travelled by air in 2023: MP Arora

Ludhiana: Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are the busiest airports in India for domestic operations whereas Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai are the busiest airports for international operations.

    This has been revealed by the Minister for Civil Aviation Gen (Dr) V.K. Singh (Retd) in an answer to questions on `Data on Air Passengers’ asked by MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora in the recently concluded interim budget session of Rajya Sabha.  Arora had asked about the number of passengers travel on an average within the country and overseas; the name of the busiest three airports in the country; and average cost spent by passengers on air tickets within the country per trip and per flown Km.

  In a statement here today, Arora said the Minister also provided month-wise total number of passengers carried for Scheduled Domestic and Scheduled International operations for the year (January-December) 2023. According to this provisional data, in this calendar year total number of 152,040,530 passengers were carried for Scheduled Domestic operations and 61,869,972 passengers (Indian Airlines: 28,414,022 and Foreign Airlines: 33,455,950) for Scheduled International operations.  As such, a total 213,910,502 passengers were carried for both Scheduled Domestic operations and Scheduled International Operations.

  With regard to question about average cost spent by passengers on air tickets within the country per trip and per flown Km, the Minister answered that no such data is available.
