4 members of family die in Patiala, had lit bonfire to beat cold

Patiala: Four members of a family who had set up a fireplace at Markle Colony Sanauri Adda in Patiala died due to cold late last night. At midnight, the police reached the spot after receiving information, took possession of the bodies, and sent them to Rajindra Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Nawab, his wife, son Armaan, and daughter Rukaiya. The children are between the ages of two and six. Nawab, originally from Bihar, used to work in a factory in the Markle Colony area.

According to the police, Nawab lived in quarters built in Markle Colony. Many houses are present in this plot, and one of these rooms was rented by Nawab. After finishing duty on Monday, he reached the room, where he burnt coals in the fireplace to ward off the cold. Smoke spread in the room late at night, noticed by people nearby.

When they knocked on the door and received no response, they broke the door and found all four in an unconscious state. Aman Bansal, a resident of Jagdish Colony, who reached the spot, mentioned that when they arrived, all four were unconscious and were subsequently sent to the hospital.
