Acting Akal Takht jathedar’s murder: Minorities commission asks Punjab CS to file ATR by Jan 20

Chandigarh: The National Commission for Minorities has taken notice of the murder of former acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Gurdev Singh Kaunke. The commission has asked for action taken report from the Punjab government by January 20.

In response, Prof. Sham Singh, the President of The Central Sri Guru Singh Sabha, and Khushhal Singh, the General Secretary, wrote a letter to the National Commission for Minorities. Consequently, Suman Kumar, undersecretary to the Central government, wrote a letter to the Punjab Chief Secretary seeking a report.

The Central government is inquiring about the actions taken by the Punjab government regarding the matter. The Central Sri Guru Singh Sabha has expressed support for the demand for a report by the Minorities Commission. Prof. Sham Singh, the President of the Assembly, stated that the Minorities Commission should instruct the Punjab government to take further action.

In a letter to the commission’s chief, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, the Central Sri Guru Singh Sabha highlighted the jathedar’s killing as a grave violation of human rights. Therefore, the Central Government should intervene in the matter and promptly take action against the accused.
