Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates Air Force Heritage Centre in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated a first-of-its-kind Air Force Heritage Centre here. The Union Territory of Chandigarh and the Indian Air Force had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year under which the centre has been set up.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhary and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher were present at the inauguration ceremony. The IAF chief had visited the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre last month to review the progress of its construction.
The heritage centre is spread over an area of over 17,000 sq ft. It is the first such centre which depicts the role of the Air Force in the 1965, 1971 wars and various wars including the Kargil war and the Balakot air strike through graffiti and mementos.
Officials said that this heritage centre will be an inspiration for future generations and will showcase the indomitable spirit of the Indian Air Force.
