Former CM Charanjit Channi’s troubles may increase, vigilance investigating development works done in Chamkaur Sahib

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau has launched a probe into the disproportionate assets case against former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the development works carried out in his assembly constituency Chamkaur Sahib. 
On Friday, the vigilance team reached Chamkaur Sahib and seized documents related to the development work being carried out there and took them along.
While Charanjit Singh Channi was serving as chief minister, his government grants are being scrutinised by the team. Recently, CM Bhagwant Mann had accused Channi of demanding money from his a player through his nephew to give a job to a sportsperson.
About six months ago, local councillors had complained of irregularities in the development work done in Chamkaur Sahib. The team, led by Vigilance Officer Chand Kumar Singla, conducted a six-hour-long investigation on Friday but refused to divulge any details.
    In this complaint, councillor Sukhvir Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Kamlesh Verma’s husband Darshan Verma, Paramjit Kaur’s husband Shamsher Singh had accused the council president of misusing the post. In this complaint, allegations were made of sewerage lines, illegal colonies and approval of illegal construction.
