Giani Harpreet Singh expressed his desire to quit from the post of Jathedar of Akal Takht: SGPC Chief 

Amritsar News: The SGPC had convened an emergency meeting of the internal committee here today to replace the Akal Takht Jathedar. The committee convened a meeting of the internal committee on the matter at a 72-hour notice.
      The meeting was held today at the SGPC headquarters. SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that giani Harpreet Singh had expressed his desire to quit as the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht, after which the internal committee decided to appoint Giani Raghbir Singh as jathedar of Akal Takht.
     Giani Harpreet Singh became jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo. Meanwhile, Giani Raghbir Singh has also been given the additional charge of head granthi of Harmandir Sahib. At present, Giani Jagtar Singh is serving as the Acting Head Granthi of The Harmandir Sahib in Ludhiana, but he will continue to serve as the Additional Head Granthi as before.
      Dhami claimed that Giani Harpreet Singh had voluntarily relinquished the services of the acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht.
      The SGPC president said that talks have been held with Giani Harpreet Singh in this regard. Giani Harpreet Singh had been at the centre of a controversy after attending the engagement of Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MEMBER Raghav Chadha. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had also commented on his participation, during which the internal committee appreciated the services rendered by Giani Harpreet Singh.
