Jakhar and Majithia slam Congress over Tiwari’s announcement to make Chandigarh a city state

Chandigarh: Punjab politics have once again heated up over the decision to separate Punjab’s capital, Chandigarh, from its current status and make it a city-state.

Reacting to Congress candidate from Chandigarh Manish Tiwari’s claim, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar said Chandigarh belongs to Punjab. He criticized the Congress for lacking coherence in policy-making and decision-making.

Jakhar argued that the Congress has outsourced its policies to Ambika Soni, Sam Pitroda, and others who are out of touch with the ground realities in Punjab and elsewhere.

Jakhar said that the Congress’s attempt to separate Chandigarh from Punjab would be opposed by the BJP in every possible way. He urged the Punjab Congress to clarify its stand on the issue.

He also called on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to express his opinion on the matter of taking away Punjab’s rights, so that people are not left in any kind of dilemma and can form their own opinions before voting. Jakhar added that the Chief Minister has, in a way, weakened Punjab’s claim on Chandigarh.

Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia posted on his social media, responding to Tiwari’s claim of making Chandigarh a city-state, saying that it is like stabbing Punjab in the back. He said that there is talk of giving Chandigarh the status of a separate city.

Majithia demanded answers from Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Partap Singh Bajwa, and other Congress leaders.
