Justice Ritu Bahri to be acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court

Justice Ritu Bahri has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha will retire on Friday. 
      Justice Bahri was born on 11 October 1962 in Jalandhar and belongs to a family of eminent lawyers. Her great-grandfather, the late Karam Chand, was a well-known lawyer outside. Her grandfather, the late Som Dutt, was an eminent lawyer and was also an MLA from Punjab from 1952 to 1957. Her father, Justice Amrit Lal Bahri, retired as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1994.
     Justice Bahri studied at Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh and did her Economics (Hons) from Government College for Women, Chandigarh in 1982. In 1985, she graduated from the Punjab University, Chandigarh. She started practising in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1986. She was appointed assistant advocate general of Haryana in 1992. 
       She was appointed deputy advocate general Haryana in August 1999 and senior advocate general Haryana in December 2009. She was elevated as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 16, 2010.
