No proposal to make electricity more expensive in Punjab – Power Minister

Moga: The Cabinet Minister of Power and Public Works Departments of Punjab Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO has clarified that there was no proposal by the Punjab government to make electricity more expensive in the state. He came today to attend a function at a local private school. On this occasion, MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, MLA Mr. Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Mayor of Municipal Corporation Moga Mr. Baljit Singh Chani, Chairman of Market Committee Moga Mr. Harjinder Singh Rode, and others were also present.

     Talking to reporters, Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the Punjab government has not increased the electricity rates since the state government was formed under the leadership of Bhagwant Singh Maan. He said that it has been more than 17 months since electricity was made free in Punjab. The Bhagwant Singh Mann government of Punjab fulfilled its first election guarantee by giving free electricity.
He said that after this many improvements have been made in the electricity department. When his government assumed power, the electricity board was running at a loss of Rs 1880 crore. But with the favorable efforts of the Punjab government, today the board has made a profit of Rs 564 crore. Even now, continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the infrastructure in the power sector.
He said that continuous efforts are being made by the Punjab government to raise the level of education in the state. Besides recruiting teaching and non-teaching staff in the schools, the schools are being made schools of Eminence. He said that the Punjab government is trying to make the state Rangla Punjab in the true sense.
