Operation Blue Star anniversary: 3000 cops deployed in Amritsar, 11 companies of paramilitary forces deployed across Punjab

Chandigarh: Ahead of the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6, police have beefed up security across Punjab, including Amritsar. Apart from the police, paramilitary forces are also taking the lead. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla reached Amritsar on Sunday and held an emergency meeting with the officials to chalk out the strategy. 
    He said that along with increasing police patrolling, social media is also being monitored. He appealed to the people not to believe in rumours spread on social media and cooperate with the police. All the officers including Amritsar Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh were present in the emergency meeting of the Special Director General of Police. 
    They discussed every aspect of security in the meeting. On the occasion, officials informed him that checkpoints have been set up at 68 sensitive places in the area. They have been selected on the basis of survey. Along with this, police patrolling has been increased in crowded areas.
